Three Wedding Trends We Love

As caterers, we witness countless weddings year-round, and we get excited about new ideas as much as our wedding couples! Throughout the year, we take note of trends that add fun elements to your event – so let’s look at some of our recent favorites.

Mini hors d’oeuvres
Smaller individual portions are taking cocktail hour by storm. At Russo’s Catering, we are always updating our game with yummy passed appetizers to choose from including mini tomato tartlets, individual beef sliders, Caprese skewers, to name a few. Guests will be wowed by the unique presentation as well as the flavor variety. Cocktail hour is a fun time for guests to mingle while getting a taste of the delicious dinner they are about to enjoy.

Activities in the great outdoors
As Covid had a major impact on weddings, we noticed more couples hosting ceremonies, cocktail hours, and parts of the reception outdoors, giving guests a breath of fresh air. Jennifer and Matt Connelly, a November 2020 Piazza Messina couple, enjoyed staging multiple areas for guests to gather and enjoy the reception activities on the spacious Messina grounds. “One of our favorite parts of the night was our Havana Lounge, offering cigars and a signature Manhattan cocktail in honor of our grandfathers. Piazza Messina pulled off the perfect vibe, despite unrelenting rain, on a tented patio with fire pits and sparkling lights. Our guests loved it, too!” Jennifer said.

Polaroids
Polaroid pictures have made a huge comeback at recent weddings. We have seen Polaroid table plans to help guests find their seats, DIY photo booths, and our personal favorite: a Polaroid guest book. Newlyweds offer cameras for guests to snap a pic when they arrive, tape it in the guest book, and write a sweet message to the bride and groom. There’s just something about a candid picture that captures the excitement of the fun party ahead.
